Mexico: 103 unaccompanied minors found in truck

Police officers found 103 unaccompanied minors in an abandoned truck in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Most of the young people traveling alone are from Guatemala, Mexican authorities said.

There were also 212 adults from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Ecuador in the semi-trailer. 28 migrants were with other family members in the vehicle, in which a total of 343 passengers were found.

The semitrailer without a driver was discovered on a highway, said the National Institute for Migration. The closed trailer is equipped with fans, ventilation systems and a second floor. This would have allowed people to be accommodated on two levels. The children were placed in the care of Veracruz authorities. The residence status of the other migrants will be clarified.
