Former F1 race director Michael Masi, who was dismissed after losing his face, may make a comeback.
After the controversial title deciding match at the 2021 final round of the Abu Dhabi GP, many praised Michael Masi’s evacuation, but FIA’s new president Mohammed bin Sulayem said Michael Masi. Claims not to have been dismissed.
“He had a personal overload of being a safety car delegate as well as a race director,” Mohammed bin Sulayem told the Daily Mail.
“He made a mistake, but I didn’t say it was the end of the match with the FIA.”
Mohammed bin Sulayem said the 2021 fierce battle in Abu Dhabi during the safety car and Michael Masi’s treatment on the final lap was a “human error.”
“I talked to him two days ago,” said Mohammed bin Sulayem.
“I have no personal problems. I don’t hate anyone.”
“Michael was there and we might use him. We didn’t say we would drive him away. We said we might use him. He’s in a good place to use. Maybe. We are open to all. “
Mohammed bin Sulaym says the FIA deserves most of the responsibility for the 2021 controversy and argues that the previous “race structure” needs to be modified.
“And we have welcomed two new race directors, but that hasn’t worked yet,” Mohammed bin Sulayem claimed.
“We need to address this shortage of FIA talent. Ideally, we want to identify at least three race directors by the beginning of next year.”
