Michael McNiven is traded to the Flames

Having slipped into the organization chart of the Montreal Canadiens, Michael McNiven will get a new chance to assert himself in the organization of the Calgary Flames.

The two organizations have indeed announced a transaction on Wednesday. The Habs will get “future considerations” in return from the 24-year-old masked man.

Never drafted, McNiven signed his first professional contract with the CH on September 24, 2015. Two years later, he won the trophy for the best goalkeeper in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) at the end of the 2016-2017 season. with the Owen Sound Attack. The Manitoban got his first National League minutes this season when he relieved Cayden Primeau against the Minnesota Wild on January 24. He gave up three goals on seven shots in a stinging 8-2 loss.

With the Laval Rocket this season, McNiven posted a 4-4-1 record, a 4.04 goals-against average and a .869 save percentage. Already behind Primeau, he slipped behind Kevin Poulin with the American League school club.
