We recently announced the closure of the café “Au Temple” in Outremeuse in Liège, on admission of bankruptcy before the Commercial Court of Liège last December. The “Au Temple” café has existed since 1898 on rue Saint-Julien in Outremeuse. It is the second oldest café in Liège after “Le Genon” in rue Cathédrale.

There are apartments above the cafe and the HLS brewery in Wandre owns the whole building. And for the past three weeks, the “Au Temple” café has once again been accessible to the general public. It was taken over by the restaurateur from Liège, Michel Geudens, who is not related to the former operator.

“I ran the restaurant “Roture’s Bar” in Roture in Outremeuse not far from here for 20 years. So I often came to “Au Temple” for a drink. I have good contacts as a restaurateur with the HLS brewery, which offered me to take over the café and I accepted. My restaurant is now closed and it may be taken over,” explains Michel Geudens.

The café has therefore reopened its doors to the delight of customers. “I repainted the walls, I refreshed the bar, I installed new tables and chairs acquired on Marketplace and I installed new lamps”, further specifies Michel Geudens.

Snacks

And customers are gradually returning. “There are scrabble tables every Tuesday around 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and belote tables every Friday at noon,” he adds.

Michel Geudens works alone for the moment. “The cafe is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. until closing, and it’s closed on Sundays and Mondays. I also have customers from my old restaurant who stop by for a drink and a chat. I always offer pils beers, specialty beers, coffees, soft drinks, white wine and red wine. And I will soon be offering a small catering during the month of June,” concludes Michel Geudens.
