Michter's launches its Toasted Barrel Finish Rye

Louisville, Kentucky (ots/PRNewswire) – In September, Michter’s Distillery will launch their US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye.

“We launched the first toasted barrel whiskey from an American distillery in 2014 because we liked the unique flavor profile. Little did we know at the time that this would create a new whiskey category,” said Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco.

Andrea Wilson, Master of Maturation at Michter’s, oversees the special aging protocol that Michter’s Toasted Barrel Rye goes through. She remarked, “Our Master Distiller Dan McKee and I first select fully mature casks of our US*1 Rye. Each of these rye casks is then transferred to a second cask for refinement, made from special wood that has been air dried and stored outdoors for 24 months and is toasted to our specifications but not charred. The Toasted Barrel Finish Rye was created to showcase the beautiful extracts from a toasted cask, giving it remarkable character and contributing to an exceptional experience.”

According to Master Distiller McKee, the average cask strength of the toasted rye casks used for this bottling is 108.9 (54.45% ABV). The suggested retail price for Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is $120 in the US for a 750ml bottle. McKee said of the whiskey, “I like rye in general and this toasted rye in particular is a full flavor experience.”
