On January 18, Microsoft announced that it was in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, a company that had serious problems regarding complaints of sexual and workplace harassment. In turn, they lost several directors in recent months after the scandals, which delayed their projects for the following years.
The purchase of all the studios linked to Blizzard is expected to be completed at the end of the 2023 fiscal year. Of course, this movement has generated great expectations among gamers, who eagerly await news about conflicting games such as Overwatch 2 or Diablo Four.
Will Microsoft have many more Xbox exclusives?
One of the concerns of the community is that PlayStation could run out of cross-platform games. Let’s remember that Microsoft has also acquired Bethesda and could launch Fallout exclusively for Xbox Series X if it wanted to.
However, Phil Spencer, responsible for the Xbox brand, has come out to put cold cloths on the situation.
“Microsoft will continue to make some Activision games for PlayStation consoles, but will also keep some Xbox-exclusive content,” Microsoft’s official statement read.
“Activision Blizzard’s incredible franchises will also accelerate our plans for Cloud Gaming, allowing more people in more places around the world to participate in the Xbox community using phones, laptops and other devices. Activision Blizzard games are enjoyed on a wide variety of platforms and we will continue to support those communities in the future,” added Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
