Microsoft issues end of support reminder for Windows 10 21H2 and suggests Windows 11

Microsoft released a reminder this Thursday (6) about the date on which it will end support for Windows 10 in version 21H2. In addition, the Redmond giant still suggests that users upgrade to Windows 11 if they have a qualifying device.

End of support will happen on June 13th of this year. In practice, this measure will mean that machines equipped with Windows 10 21H2 will no longer receive important updates, such as the so-called Patch Tuesday.

The decision will affect all editions of that version of the operating system, which include Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations. However, on the indicated date, there will still be one last update to be released.

Feature updates for consumer and enterprise devices will start automatically through Windows Update. Check out the full message from Microsoft, posted on the health dashboard:

“On June 13, 2023, Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations editions of Windows 10, version 21H2 will reach end of maintenance. The upcoming June 2023 security update, to be released on June 13, 2023, will be the last available update for this release. After that date, devices running this version will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections against the latest security threats.

To help keep you protected and productive, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for Windows 10 consumer devices and unmanaged corporate devices that are at the end of maintenance or within a few months of maintenance ending.

[…] As always, we recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 10 or upgrade eligible devices to Windows 11.”
