Microsoft opens registration for Imagine Cup 2024

Winners of the innovation competition will be awarded a prize of 100 thousand dollars and a mentoring session led by Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft; On November 21st, a live online event will take place to bring more details to those interested

São Paulo, November 16, 2023 – Registration is now open for the 21st edition of the Imagine Cup, a global technology and innovation competition created by Microsoft. This year, with the theme “Creating the Future with AI”, students from all over the world will be able to submit their startup projects focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and compete for a prize of 100 thousand dollars, in addition to an exclusive mentoring session with the company’s CEO, Satya Nadella. The two runner-up teams will each win 50 thousand dollars. On November 21st, at 4:00 pm (Brasília time), the company will hold a live broadcast on the Microsoft Reactor with company professionals to provide more details about the competition, how to participate and share tips. Registration is now open and can be done via the website. Imagine Cup until January 24, 2024.

The competition, which has been running since 2003, seeks to encourage creativity, innovative thinking and the development of innovative technological solutions that address global problems and promote positive changes in society through technology. “Our main objective with the Imagine Cup is to unlock innovation for everyone and encourage the creation of solutions that address important issues for society. Through this initiative, we want to boost these students’ projects and offer them the necessary resources to put these ideas into practice. Over the years, we have already had several Brazilian talents recognized, taking the potential of our intellectual capital to a global event”, comments Christiano Faig, vice president of Solutions Sales & Technology at Microsoft Brazil.

Selected teams will receive personalized guidance from technical and business mentors, immersion in cutting-edge AI technology with access to USD$1,000 in Azure credits and USD$2,500 in OpenAI credits. Additionally, they will also receive expert guidance to accelerate your startup’s AI journey, giving you a distinct advantage in creating AI-powered solutions.

To participate, students must be regularly enrolled in Higher Education, or equivalent, and be over 18 years old. In the first stage, teams made up of up to four people must register their AI projects on the Imagine Cup portal, where they will have access to Founders Hub resources. Once registered, ideas will be evaluated and selected for the second stage, from January 26th to February 9th, which consists of creating a pitch to present the project and submitting the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). From February 23rd to April 12th, teams that advance in the competition will be classified for the semi-finals, where they will receive access to level 2 of the Founders Hub and mentors to help prepare the project for the final stage.

The final of the competition will be held in May next year, during the Microsoft Build event, in the United States. On this occasion, the top three selected teams will compete on a global stage in the Imagine Cup World Championship. Registration is open until January 24th, at site of the competition.
