Microsoft Rewards – A Technical Issue That Caused Many Wrongful Bans

The Microsoft Rewards loyalty program is for a lot of users on consoles and PC, a great way to have fun on the Xbox store at a lower cost. Nothing can be worse than having your account banned because it is permanent and there are few recourses, especially when nothing justifies it. This is unfortunately what many players around the world have experienced this week. Rest assured, program officials are aware and working to resolve the issue.

Taking a foothold in the entire Xbox ecosystem, this service allows via punch-cards, Game Pass quests or Bing searches for example, to earn points to then spend as you see fit. Rules naturally frame everything and offenders have their accounts suspended. Problem, for several days, the Microsoft algorithms responsible for detecting unusual and fraudulent activity on accounts seem to be overzealous and banish a number of users without reason.

Worse, impacted players who contacted Rewards support to find a solution very often only received a terse response: “You broke the rules, end of story”. And this, without any tangible proof of infringement being able to be demonstrated. This morning, Daniel Martinsthe marketing manager of the Xbox loyalty program worldwide admitted via his Twitter account that these bans were abusive and the direct result of a bug.

Dear Microsoft Rewards members,

We are aware that several members are affected by a technical problem and some accounts have been suspended by mistake when trying to redeem.
Our team is actively working to resolve it, we appreciate your patience.

While many users actually report that it was during an exchange of points on the Rewards store that the suspension was declared, others had the unpleasant surprise of seeing their accounts locked without any reason or action on their part. go. In all cases, Daniel Martins urges everyone who has been affected by this bug to open a ticket to this address. As a reminder, the suspension of your Rewards account does not impact your Microsoft account (Gamertag, achievements, digital properties, etc.) but prohibits you from continuing to earn points and even from using those already earned. Hopefully all injured players will be promptly and appropriately compensated.
