A Microsoft is finally leveraging the audio quality of calls made by Teamsyour conferencing platform, with support to spatial audio. A Appleit is worth noting, introduced the technology in video calls in the FaceTime with macOS Monterey and iOS/iPadOS 15 in 2021.

In practice, spatial audio creates the illusion that individuals are positioned in the space in which they are shown on the screen, so that each individual’s voice appears to come out of their respective positions. According to Microsoft, this “will make it easier to track who is speaking and reduce meeting fatigue.”

according to company information, to have this effect, the meeting must have more than 2 participants (in gallery view) and less than 100. Also, to preserve audio quality, Teams will turn off spatial audio if bandwidth or computer memory is low.

As pointed out by The Verge, to enjoy what’s new, you’ll need wired headphones or built-in speakers from compatible devices, such as Macs with Apple Silicon. Soon, any device with Bluetooth LE support will be supported, according to Microsoft.
