Microsoft would have offered a big concession to Sony with Call of Duty

In order to have support from Sony for its plan to buy Activision Blizzard, Microsoft would have made a rather surprising proposal to its rival.

As we know, the product that attracts a lot of attention from Microsoft’s side, with regard to the aspect of video games, is its Game Pass which has more than 25 million subscribers and which places it as a leader in the market with this type of service.

The company is betting big on its cloud gaming offering and the acquisition of Activision Blizzard would help it greatly improve it.

Bloomberg has put forward a very interesting information on this subject : in its ten-year proposal made to Sony, with Call of Duty, Microsoft was ready to allow the integration of this franchise with the PlayStation Plus service.

It seems that this aspect was part of the offer declined by Sony and which was qualified as unacceptable, this autumn. All the same, it remains a bit surprising that Microsoft has proposed to reduce its competitive advantage, with its Game Pass, against its fiercest competitor.

The rest remains nebulous with this case since it was announced that the Federal Trade Commission, in the United States, will challenge the transaction before the Federal Court.

If ever the UK or the European Union follow suit in the same direction, Microsoft will have to go back to the drawing board to tie up a new agreement, since this one will expire in July 2023. Or, of course, it could also simply forget about this project.
