After almost 10 days after the closing of the midterm elections, the distribution of Democrats and Republicans in the different government instances of the country is clearer.

A red tide that was not consummated left the Republicans with internal conflicts in the party, but with the state of Florida turned to the right and the House of Representatives under their control with a slim majority.

For their part, the Democrats celebrated their unexpected victory in the Senate, even though a second round is expected in Georgia.

Senators

Democrats will maintain their narrow majority in the Senate for the next two years, screened CNN, regardless of the outcome of the runoff in Georgia on December 6.

This is an atypical result because, historically, the party in the White House loses both chambers.

If the Democrats win, they will have a 51-49 majority. If the Republicans win, then the Senate will be tied 50-50 and will remain a Democratic majority with Vice President Kamala Harris casting tie-breaking votes.

Last Saturday, Nevada Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto claimed victory over Republican Adam Laxalt in the close race.

House of Representatives

As expected, the Republican Party won a majority in the House of Representatives but their victory was not a landslide, as the GOP had long boasted.

With this majority, Republicans will be able to stop the Democratic legislative agenda and increase investigations into the Biden administration.

Governors

Of the 36 governorships up for election on November 8, the Democrats have won a total of 18 and the Republicans 17. Alaska is still processing its results.

Democrats won Arizona, Maine; Massachusetts; Michigan; Wisconsin; Minnesota; Rhode Island; Connecticut; NY; Pennsylvania; Maryland; Illinois; Colorado; California; New Mexico; Kansas; Hawaii and Oregon.

The Republicans won the governorships in Nevada; Idaho; Vermont; New Hampshire; Wyoming; South Dakota; Iowa; Ohio; Nebraska; Tennessee; Arkansas; Oklahoma; Alabama; Georgia; South Carolina; Florida and Texas.
