Midterm primary elections: Which states will vote on August 9, 2022?

On March 11, the primary elections began in several states of the American Union, in which the candidates of each party have been chosen for certain electoral positions. Voting will continue until September before the general elections on November 8.

This year, candidates seeking a place or re-election in the House of Representatives, in the Senate, as well as in the governorship of 36 states and three territories of the United States.

It is important to mention that 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate are up for election, while in the House of Representatives, all 435 seats are up for election.

On the other hand, there are 36 states that will hold elections for governor: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, as well as three territories: Guam , the Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands.

Midterm primary elections: Which states will vote on August 9, 2022?

The states that will vote on August 9 are: Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont and Wisconsin.

In Connecticut, candidates for governor, senate, and other local offices will be elected. Republican Bob Stefanowski is vying for a rematch against Governor Ned Lamont. Meanwhile, three Republicans will fight for a spot on the November ballot to challenge Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who has represented the state since 2011.

On the other hand, in Minnesotathe Republican Party formally endorsed Scott Jensen, a physician and former state senator, to challenge Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, who is seeking his second term.

In Vermont, Peter Welch leads a small field of Democrats vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Patrick Leahy, who is retiring. Besides, Republican Gov. Phil Scott is expected to run for re-election.

As to WisconsinMandela Barnes is expected to win the Democratic Senate nomination, who will challenge Senator Ron Johnson in November. In the Republican gubernatorial primary, the top two contenders are former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Tim Michels. The winner will face Governor Tony Evers.
