Migration begins implementation of exchange network to detect false documents

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Migration Department is making progress in implementing the Athens Network, a system for exchanging information between countries to detect false documents at border crossings.

The system is applied by the European Union together with Latin American countries to have an interconnected database that allows identifying the authenticity of the documents presented.

The director of Migration, Jorge Kronawetter, indicated that Paraguay is the third country in the region to join the network, which allows for raising security standards at border crossings.

The implementation begins this week with training for Immigration officials on the information exchange system. The official inauguration will be on Wednesday of next week, he said.

The Athens Network is a network for exchanging information on travel documents to combat the crime of document falsification, carried out within the framework of the Secure Borders programme, in collaboration with the Spanish Police and with the support of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP).
