The Spanish authorities have decided to take charge of the illegal immigration file in Melilla, by strengthening control and surveillance to prevent the onslaught of migrants.
Spain seems to have learned the lesson well and taken into account the different alerts. Having measured the “capacity of nuisance” of Morocco, which recently played the card of illegal emigration, to bend the Iberian authorities, Madrid has decided to take the bull by the horns. The Civil Guard will thus proceed with the installation of a new surveillance system at the land, air and sea borders of Melilla with Morocco.
It will therefore be a question of strengthening control and surveillance and thus preventing attempts to attack migrants. A new surveillance system that consists of installing five fixed stations in different parts of the Spanish enclave. This system, connected to a command post, will allow “the detection, control and monitoring of migrants, day and night”, notes Infodefensewhich specifies that a budget of 2.5 million euros has been set aside for this major project.

The objective is clear: “to guarantee effective border surveillance”, note the Spanish authorities. This decision comes shortly following the conclusion of new agreements between Morocco and Spain, including Western Sahara. Through these agreements, Spain obtained from the Cherifian authorities the assurance, among other things, of tightening up the anti-migration system. If Rabat has already taken steps in this direction, Spain seems to want to ensure its own migratory security, with these new measures.
Experience having demonstrated, as pointed out by the Iberian authorities and even Algerian, that Morocco has made the migration issue with Spain a lever to keep Madrid under its yoke. The diplomatic crisis of 2021 with the Ghali affair is undoubtedly still fresh in memory. Within days, Morocco had let thousands of migrants cross the borders. At the time, Spain only had its eyes to cry.
