Miguel Vargas established himself as one of the Dodgers’ best prospects, but in his first two years he has not been able to demonstrate his full talent. This is something he will look to change in 2024.
The 24-year-old slugger from Havana (Cuba) debuted this Spring Training with a pair of hits and a great play in left field against the San Diego Padres.
After the exhibition match, Vargas commented that he has worked on confidence after the tough 2023 season and that he trained with his father Lázaro Vargas, a Cuban baseball legend.
Vargas had a .195 batting average with 50 hits, 7 home runs, 32 RBIs and 36 runs scored in 81 games in 2023.
In Triple A, the Cuban averaged more than .300 at bat and had a .915 OPS in 113 games in 2022.
One of the big changes for the Cuban will be the change of position. With the move of Mookie Betts to the infield as second baseman, Vargas will play as an outfielder, being a backup player for the outfield.

The Dodgers continue to bet on Miguel Vargas in the 2024 season and one of those who spoke highly of him was Dave Roberts, manager of the Dodgers.
