Mikati was exposed to an embarrassing situation while receiving the Italian Prime Minister

Lebanon – Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati was exposed to an embarrassing situation while receiving Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Beirut International Airport.

A video clip was widely circulated, in which Mikati received and kissed one of the women in the Italian delegation that arrived in Beirut yesterday evening, Wednesday, thinking that she was Meloni and walked with her on the red carpet.

However, he was alerted by one of the assistants that this woman was not his Italian counterpart, so he returned and stood at the bottom of the plane’s stairs, waiting for the “real” Meloni, who came out and was warmly received by Mikati again.

Later, Mikati and Meloni held talks at the Saraya at the beginning of the latter’s visit to inspect the Italian battalion operating as part of the peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL).

A statement issued after the meeting indicated that the two sides discussed the close and historical bilateral relations between Lebanon and Italy, in addition to issues of common interest in the Middle East region.

Mikati and Meloni expressed their satisfaction with the UN Security Council decision requiring a ceasefire in Gaza during the month of Ramadan. They also discussed Security Council resolutions related to the region and Lebanon.

Mikati reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to fully implementing all its international resolutions, especially Resolution 1701, and Israel’s obligation to fully implement it and stop its attacks on Lebanon’s sovereignty on land, sea and air.

He also thanked his Italian counterpart for her country’s continued support for the army and strengthening its capabilities to enable it to carry out all the tasks assigned to it, considering that Italy’s permanent contribution to the UNIFIL forces is an affirmation of Italy’s commitment to Lebanon’s safety and stability and the preservation of its territorial integrity.
