Former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson punched a passenger on a plane after he “hurled a water bottle” at him, according to a spokesman for the former boxing champion.
A video taken on the plane showed Tyson leaning back in his seat and repeatedly punching an unknown person sitting behind him.
A spokesperson for the heavyweight boxing legend confirmed that the incident came as a result of Tyson being “harassed by an aggressive rider”.
The police were called, who detained Tyson and the other person for a short time.
One person was treated at San Francisco International Airport for minor injuries that were not life-threatening.
“This individual provided minimal details about the incident and refused to show further cooperation for the police investigation,” a San Francisco Police spokesperson said in a statement.
He added, “The two people were released until further investigations are conducted.”
The accident occurred on board a JetBlue flight last Wednesday night, just before it left San Francisco International Airport for Florida.
The video, which was published by TMZ, does not show the full quarrel, and the water bottle did not appear in the published clip.
The website said Tyson initially agreed to take a picture with the passenger, but the man continued to harass the former boxing champ even though the latter asked him to “calm down”.
In the video clip, which shows Tyson hitting a passenger with him on the plane, a voice says “Hey Mike, Mike”, apparently to someone who was trying to calm him down, while another person tries to push the former champ away from the passenger who received several punches. .
The video also showed the forehead of the passenger who was attacked by Tyson, which appeared to be stained with blood.
San Francisco police said they were “aware of a video that may have been taken of the incident.” Video footage of the incident was also sent to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, which is responsible for the investigation under its jurisdiction.
