MINCIN note on unloading of rice and flour in Cuba 2024-04-15 14:35:35

The Ministry of Internal Trade of Cuba (MINCIN) released information from the Cuban News Agency about the unloading of rice and flour to guarantee the regulated family basket.

According to the note, the unloading of rice ships began last Thursday in the ports of Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos and Nuevitas.

The objective is to guarantee the completion of the seven pounds of the regulated family basket for April and the additional kilogram that is being delivered to the population.

According to details from Lázaro Bruno Pich Sobrino, head of the Port, Transport, Internal Economy Group, it is estimated that about 4,000 tons of grain will be extracted from these ships every day.

Likewise, other coastal vessels operate through the ports of Boquerón, in Guantánamo; Vita, in Holguín and Carúpano, in Las Tunas, with different products intended for the people.

It was also announced that a ship of wheat flour from Türkiye is unloaded in Havana, with about 20 thousand tons, destined mainly for the production of bread for the family basket of all of Cuba.

The official highlighted that “these tasks require greater effort from the workers, while, while the operation progresses, other vessels are waiting to dock at the docks.”

CUBA RICE DONATIONS

The statement indicates that this program includes the extraction and transportation of the rice donation in 6 large flights, sent by the People’s Republic of China, at the José Martí international airport.

For her part, Yaima Martínez Peralta, deputy director of the Port of Havana, declared that the work scheme has been designed, maintaining three brigades to unload 800 tons in 24 hours, most of it in the morning, to to be able to meet the country’s need for flour to reach all places, in order to make bread.
