Employees who are paid by tip will also see their minimum wage increased by $0.60, thus rising to $11.40 per hour.

This new increase in the minimum wage should benefit just over 300,000 workers, according to the provincial government.

Several organizations consider this increase of $0.75 in the minimum wage insufficient.

The person in charge of Quebec solidaire in matters of work, Alexandre Leduc, deplores in particular “the backward-looking vision of the government”.

“Today, a decent and viable minimum wage is $18 an hour,” he said in a statement.

On March 31, the Minister of Employment, Jean Boulet, mentioned the possibility that the minimum wage would reach $15 an hour next year.

“If the average hourly wage rises as expected, we will probably reach $15 (per hour), (…) we are inclined to go towards that and perhaps beyond”, had– he said during question period in the National Assembly.
