At a press point held from the commune of La Pintana, the minister spokesperson for the Government, Camila Vallejowas consulted on various contingency issues, such as the short law on isapres and the constitutional draft of the Expert Commission.

Statements are given within the framework of the Participatory Public Account 2023 of the former deputy’s ministry, where they will talk about the Royalty for Chile and the entry into force of the Food Pensions Law.

Prior to the Public Account, Vallejo was consulted about the insurers’ criticism of the Minister of Justice, Luis Cordero, where they insist that the closure and abrupt termination of coverage for people is risked.

“The problem of the isapres is that they continue to pose problems and not solutions”stressed the Secretary of State.

Along these lines, the minister said that “we all know the critical situation they are in as a result of a business model that has been failing, because it was prosecuted.”

“The main responsibility for this crisis lies with the isapres themselves. So, I would expect a little more generosity, because here we are all worried about a crisis that they generated,” Vallejo said.

He also recalled that the Government has been “presenting proposals to face this crisis and in line with complying with a Supreme Court ruling and, therefore, what we hope is that everyone, both the Government and the citizens themselves , is that the isapres make proposals, and we have not seen that yet”.

The draft for the new Constitution delivered by the Expert Commission establishes, among other relevant norms, transitory electoral parity, the 5% rule for political parties and the constitutional recognition of indigenous peoples.

Regarding this, Minister Vallejo pointed out that “it is important that this process contributes to strengthening and deepening our democracy and not to regress in democratic principles that we have been building as a society, and one of those is parity.”

“This is a draft, therefore, it would be hasty to say that this is finally what will remain, because that will depend on the Constitutional Council. Therefore, after this draft, all the work that is carried out afterward is focused on what she previously indicated ”, stressed the Secretary of State.

Finally, Vallejo said that “Chileans hope that our democracy advances, that it does not go backwards, that there are more and better rights, that the State puts itself at the service of the people, and that we all feel represented in this democracy that has to come out stronger.”
