MINISTER of Manpower Ida Fauziyah welcomed the new employment policy being prepared by the Japanese Government for foreign workers in the country. This statement was conveyed by Ida Fauziyah when receiving a courtesy visit from the Deputy Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan, Miyazaki Masahisa, at the Ministry of Manpower Office, Jakarta, on Friday (3/5).

“We welcome the new regulations aimed at foreign workers in Japan. We hope that this new policy will provide more protection and improve the welfare of our migrant workers in Japan,” said Ida Fauziyah.

Ida Fauziyah explained that in a meeting with representatives of the Japanese Government, they confirmed that the policy for foreign workers would not significantly change the situation of Indonesian migrant workers currently working in Japan.

“The Japanese government emphasizes that this change in foreign worker policy will not have a big impact. Therefore, Indonesian migrant workers who are already working in Japan can continue their work there,” he explained.

As additional information, the cooperative relationship between Indonesia and Japan has been going on for more than 65 years. In the employment sector, this collaboration is reflected in the apprenticeship program through the Technical Intern Train Program (TITP) which has been running since 1993.

In the field of workforce placement, cooperation between the two countries is realized in the form of the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA), which has been effective since July 1 2008. Apart from that, Indonesia and Japan also have cooperation in the Specified Skill Workers (SSW) program.

Ida also hopes that the Japanese Government will continue to communicate with Indonesia and other countries to disseminate information regarding the new foreign worker policy.

“With the support of His Excellency Mr. Miyazaki Masahisa, Deputy Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan, I am confident that cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, especially in the field of employment, will continue to improve and develop,” he said. #MIA (RO/Z-10)
