After their trips to the field, the two ministers will receive representatives of Fugea and the Walloon Federation of Agriculture (FWA) on Tuesday.

A meeting between representatives of the agricultural world and Prime Minister Alexander De Croo is also due to take place on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

On Friday, a broader consultation including Mr. Borsus, his Flemish counterpart Jo Brouns and Federal Minister of Agriculture David Clarinval is planned. They will receive representatives of the “extended Agrofront” (Boerenbond, ABS, FWA, Fugea and MIG).

In the meantime, Minister Borsus said he was working on administrative simplification for farmers and the strengthening of what is called “chain consultation”, or dialogue between the different stakeholders in the food chain (producers, processors, traders, etc.). ). At the European level, he is committed to campaigning for a relaxation of certain environmental measures considered too drastic by farmers.

Farmers have been engaged in a protest movement for several days in Belgium and other European countries, a few months before the European elections. They denounce the economic difficulties linked to their profession, the administrative burden in the sector, and the impact of various environmental measures.

On Monday, farmers installed filter dams, stopping road traffic in several places across the country.
