Alexandra Vela resigned from the Ministry of Government, after President Lasso refused to apply the so-called “cross death”, which would imply the dissolution of the National Assembly and the advancement of the elections, given the refusal of the legislature to ratify and/or or approve presidential initiatives.

Given this, Lasso announced that he would govern by decree and regulations to laws. According to Vela, this was a mechanism to preserve democracy in the country and his insistence would have caused discomfort to the president and his collaborators.

For his part, President Lasso thanked Vela for his efforts at the head of the Ministry of Government and said that “the National Government will continue to work permanently for the well-being of citizens, the protection of democracy and the creation of a country of opportunities and safe for everyone.

The assemblyman for the province of Guayas, Francisco Jiménez, will be made official in the next few hours as the new Minister of Government, replacing Alexandra Vela

Less than 24 hours earlier, on Monday, Carlos Jijón, through his Twitter account, confirmed that he is leaving his position within the Lasso government after negotiations with the legislature failed regarding the new investment law.

President Lasso once again attacked the National Assembly and accused, without naming names, that the majority of legislators “do not care about Ecuador” and the only thing that interests them is doing “personal business, partisan interests, selfishness, vanity or jealousy.” “.

He said that he could begin to govern with an executive decree or with regulations to the laws. This, after reviewing that the Legislature has approved a single project of five envoys, among which is: the Free Expression and Communication bill; the reforms to the Higher Education Law; the Security Law project; the Bill Creating Opportunities and the denied investment law.
