Ministry of Education Signs Memorandum of Understanding with GEMS Education to Promote Green Education Initiatives

ABU DHABI, 17th October / WAM / The Ministry of Education signed a memorandum of understanding with GEMS Education, to enhance cooperation between the two parties in the field of educational sources and resources, in order to design and implement green education initiatives and integrate environmental sustainability topics into the educational system, which contributes In building the capabilities of students and academics in green education.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by His Excellency Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Care and Capacity Building Sector at the Ministry of Education, and Dino Varkey, CEO of GEMS Education Group, on the sidelines of the second meeting of the National Committee for Green Education, which was hosted by the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority.

Her Excellency Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi stressed the importance of the memorandum of understanding, which comes in the context of the Ministry of Education’s efforts aimed at developing the leadership skills and knowledge of students and academics, enabling them to lead climate action, and establishing general frameworks that ensure the inclusion of environmental sustainability topics in the educational system, in a way that achieves the desired educational goals. To enhance the knowledge and capabilities of students and teaching staff in this vital scientific field.

She said: The Ministry of Education is keen to continue working to include the climate agenda and concepts of sustainability within the educational system in the country, in order to achieve our vision aimed at achieving sustainable development goals in line with the national policies in the country and the goals of the UAE Centennial 2071, and this memorandum, which is in line with the UAE Vision 2031, will contribute. To provide a general framework in which the Ministry and GEMS Education can achieve mutual interest, by identifying areas of common interest, and exploring the possibility of implementing agreed-upon cooperative activities in building the capabilities of academics and students in public and private education in the field of environmental sustainability.

For his part, Dino Varkey said: We are pleased that the Ministry of Education has chosen to cooperate with the GEMS Education Group to benefit from our expertise, resources and educational resources to design and implement green education initiatives, in addition to highlighting the essential role of promoting sustainability and the environment in the education system in the United Arab Emirates, as we look forward to We are looking forward to the holding of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP28, and we also confirm the active participation of our students and teachers in this historic event that will be hosted by the UAE.

He added: We are pleased to announce that more than 8,500 male and female teachers in our various schools will complete the United Nations climate change course by the end of October, and this is evidence of their commitment and dedication to developing green education.

He pointed out that through this cooperation, the GEMS Education Group aims to contribute significantly to achieving the UAE’s vision to become a leader in the field of sustainable education in the world, in addition to raising a generation of responsible citizens who understand the importance of the environment and actively participate in initiatives that positively impact the environment. Our planet.

According to the memorandum; The Ministry of Education is committed to enhancing effective communication with school operators in the country to support GEMS Education initiatives in the field of environmental sustainability and climate education, in addition to supporting the participation of students and academics in national and international events and conferences in the field of sustainability and climate education (speakers – training workshops – dialogue sessions).

GEMS Education Group will implement the virtual training program for schools in the field of climate change, which aims to educate academics about climate change and environmental sustainability, share educational resources, as well as resources compatible with the curriculum framework for environmental sustainability, and support the participation of gifted students in writing, through running a program “Environmental Writer” to publish approved stories on the program platform of the GEMS Education Group, and activate the twinning project between GEMS schools that are pioneering in sustainability and the state’s schools of public and private education, in cooperation with the Emirates School Education Foundation.
