On March 19, 2024, the Ministry of Rural Development made an important announcement, publishing the notice for the 1st Call for applications under a new €135 million program.
According to the announcement of the ministry, the aim of the program is to cover the needs of Greece in processed agricultural products, but also to further develop opportunities to penetrate international markets.
Specifically, the announcement states:
The Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis & the competent Deputy Minister, Dionysis Stamenitis in collaboration with the General Secretary of Union Resources and Infrastructure, Dimitris Papagiannidis, announce the publication of the Pre-Publication of the 1st Call for the submission of applications for support for inclusion in the intervention “Π3-73-2.3 – Support for investments in manufacturing / marketing and/or development of agricultural products” of the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (SS CAP) of Greece 2023-2027, amounting to 135 million euros.
The objective of the intervention “Π3-73-2.3 – Support for investments in the processing/marketing and/or development of agricultural products” is to increase the added value of the products, with the aim of meeting the country’s needs in processed quality products but also increasing the opportunities to penetrate international markets, through the utilization of the raw material of primary production, the integration of innovation, the development of environmental protection methods and procedures that limit the phenomenon of climate change.
Both the preservation and creation of jobs, contributing to social stability and economic development both locally and nationally, as well as the protection of human health, are crucial to supporting investment.
In this context, support is granted to companies processing agricultural products when the result of their processing is also agricultural, to companies standardizing agricultural products with labeling (National and Union Standards) as well as to companies participating in contract farming schemes.
The Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis, said:
“Our concern is the adaptation of agri-food products to the new production conditions so that every technological possibility is utilized, but adapted to modern environmental requirements. We give added value to Greek products in such a way that they are more attractive in international markets and in this effort we are strengthened by the unique quality of Greek products.
By strengthening the primary sector, we create jobs that give life to the Greek region. And for the realization of this goal we use every national and European resource”.
The intervention concerns applications for support with a requested budget from 400,001.00 euros to 5,000,000.00 euros, it is co-financed by the European Union (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development – E.G.T.A.A.) and by the Greek State ( Public Investment Program – P.D.E.) and is applied throughout the country. The total amount provided for the financing of the Intervention amounts to 135,000,000.00 euros,
The pre-publication includes information on the publication of the Intervention, the eligibility and selection criteria, the eligible and ineligible costs, the intensity of support as well as the process of inclusion of the operations in the Intervention.
According to newsit, the most important conditions that candidates must meet are the following:
- They must not be problematic businesses.
- To be active in the processing / standardization of agricultural products.
- To submit a timely application for support through the Integrated Information System of State Aids (IPSKE), within the deadlines that will be set in the call for expressions of interest.
