“Ministry of Transport and Communications clarifies rules for transporting friends and family in Oman”

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport and Communications will not charge expatriate fines for transporting friends and acquaintances to airports and other vehicles in Oman without financial compensation. Fines are levied only on drivers who violate the executive rules of the Land Transport Act.

In recent days in Oman, the Department of Transport has started action once morest illegal taxi services in various governorates including Muscat. People including Malayalis were also fined 200 Riyals. Many people have shared their concerns on social media. In this situation, the ministry has come out with an explanation.

If people have been fined while transporting their friends or relatives, they can submit their complaints to the ministry. The ministry confirmed that the inspection campaigns will continue. During the inspection conducted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications once morest illegal traffic, the authorities caught more than 1440 violations of the law. 546 cases of smuggling of goods without permission were found. A fine of 300 riyals was also imposed on the drivers caught in this way.
