MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State women’s basketball ranks second in the national WBCA Division II Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll. This is the highest the Mavericks have been ranked in the WBCA Preseason Poll and the highest they’ve been at any point since March 31, 2009, when they were ranked first after winning the NCAA Division II Championship.
The Mavericks earned 468 points in the coaches poll. The team started last season ranked 15th in the preseason poll and climbed as high as fourth, before finishing the 2022-23 season ranked 11th.
Minnesota State was not the only NSIC team to make the top 25. Minnesota Duluth was ranked eighth after finishing second in the final poll last season.
An early opponent for the Mavericks, Texas Woman’s University, finds its way onto the poll as well, ranking 24th. The Mavericks take on the Pioneers Saturday Nov. 4 at 1:15 p.m. (CST). The Bulldogs come to town on Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. to start off conference play for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks begin their season on Friday at the Montana State Billings Tournament where they will take on the Florida Tech Panthers at 5:45 p.m. (CST).
