Suspect Apprehended After Attempt to place Explosive in Residential Street

Emergency services responded to a suspicious situation at a home around 00.10, where a minor was observed placing explosive material.

Witnesses swiftly detained the suspect until police arrived on the scene. Officers subsequently arrested the individual and transported them to the police station. A spokesperson for the Police confirmed this details.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team secured and safely detonated the explosive in a large sand plain. Several emergency services units were present to provide support. The street remained closed throughout the incident.

Previous incident Raises concerns

This incident follows a similar attempt to place an explosive in the same street on Friday morning. In that case, the suspect was apprehended by a witness before the device could be detonated.

The EOD also secured and detonated the explosive found in the previous incident. It is indeed currently unknown if the two attempts are connected.

in response to these incidents, the municipality of Volendam-Edam, in consultation with the police, has implemented camera surveillance in the affected street. Camera surveillance commenced on Friday afternoon.
