DETROIT — A man survived a 50-meter plunge into the Detroit River from the Ambassador Bridge, which connects Michigan and Ontario.

The man, identified as a contractor who worked on the deck, was rescued on Wednesday by the crew of a Detroit mail delivery boat.

Sam Buchanan, captain of the boat, told the Fox 2 Detroit television station that the man was brought ashore, where Detroit paramedics took over.

According to Mr Buchanan, the man was conscious but somewhat shaken from his dive.

Detroit Fire Chief James Harris said people fishing nearby saw the man in the water and alerted the boat crew.

The identity of the man has not been released.

“He was very lucky,” Chief Harris said.
