San José, Dec 13 (EFE).- Miss Universe 2023, Nicaraguan Sheynnis Palacios, thanked this Wednesday the former director of the organization, Karen Celebertti, who withdrew from the franchise after the Police arrested her husband and one of her children in Managua, after accusing them, including her, of conspiracy and treason.

“Thank you Mrs. Karen Celebertti for all the time we worked together,” wrote the universal beauty queen through her social networks.

Palacios, model, journalist and television presenter, assured that from her previous preparation until the final competition in El Salvador, on November 18, Celebertti “has been both a mentor and a friend.”

“The love for our country shines in everything (Celebertti) does and I can’t wait to see what comes your way,” continued Miss Universe 2023.

“For me it was an honor to represent our country on that stage and I hope to continue making you and our country proud,” added the first Central American to be crowned Miss Universe.

Celebertti, who is in Mexico after being prevented by the authorities from returning to Nicaragua, announced this week on her Instagram account her retirement from the organization.

The Nicaraguan Police, led by a brother-in-law of President Daniel Ortega and the Vice President, Rosario Murillo, pointed out Celebertti; her husband, Martín Argüello, and their son, for allegedly having committed the crimes of conspiracy to disturb the peace and incite hatred, violence, terrorism, organized crime, and provocation, although they have not filed a judicial accusation .

Also of apology and induction to commit crimes through information and communication technologies, in addition to the spread of false news, as well as treason, and money laundering since 2018.

In addition, he accused the Miss Nicaragua organization under the direction of Celebertti, of using the franchise, platforms “and spaces supposedly dedicated to promoting innocent beauty pageants, in a conspiracy that has worked orchestrated to turn the pageants into political traps and ambushes. financed by foreign agents”.

The now former director of Miss Nicaragua was accused two weeks after the Nicaraguan Palacios was chosen as Miss Universe 2023 and the population celebrated it spontaneously and massively in the streets of the country, despite an official ban on demonstrating in public. .

According to the Police, who have not offered evidence, the former director of Miss Nicaragua and her family had planned to take to the streets “again” in December, as a large part of the population did in April 2018, when anti-government demonstrations broke out.

The authorities prohibited Celebertti from entering the country when she was preparing to return with her daughter from Mexico, where she accompanied Miss Universe on a promotional tour that also took her to Miami (USA).

Celebertti’s mother, husband and son returned to Nicaragua one day after the beauty pageant, and were detained days later by the Police, who also described them as “traitors” and “stateless people.”

In the midst of Celebertti’s exile, the local press recalled that a daughter-in-law of Ortega and Murillo, Xiomara Blandino, criticized the management of the director of Miss Nicaragua prior to the Miss Universe pageant and presumed that the authorities are interested in controlling the franchise in the country.

Sheynnis Palacios, 23 years old, graduated in social communication and who will live in New York (USA) for a year to attend to her commitments with the international franchise, still does not have a return date to Nicaragua.
