Missing Belgian Traveler in Tasmania: Search and Rescue Efforts Underway

Australian police announced on Tuesday that they were looking for Céline Cremer, a Belgian who was traveling in Tasmania and who has not given any sign of life to her relatives since June 12. She was visiting this island territory in the south of the country by car.

In their wanted notice, local police say they have located the traveler’s Honda vehicle in a parking lot near the entrance to a hiking trail, Philosopher Falls Track, in northwestern Tasmania.

Search and rescue teams, supported by police drones, have begun excavations in this wooded region, where temperatures are between 5 and 13 degrees at this time of year, which corresponds to the southern winter.

The police invite people who have visited this parking area since June 12 to contact the authorities to report whether the young woman’s car was present there.

The start of this hike in the rainforest, considered easy, is about 4.5 hours drive from the capital of Tasmania, Hobart, and about ten kilometers from the town of Waratah.

A local police press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.

Belgian Foreign Affairs was unable to comment on this information at this stage.
