Sixth-ranked Alabama soccer wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 1-0 defeat against Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon in Starkville. The Crimson Tide finished conference play holding a 14-4-0 overall record and a 7-3-0 mark in Southeastern Conference action, securing the second-best season in program history despite the late setback.
The decisive moment arrived in the 25th minute when the Bulldogs capitalized on a corner kick, sending a header past the defense to grab a 1-0 advantage. That first-half strike marked only the second time this season that Alabama found itself trailing at halftime, putting the visitors in unfamiliar territory on the road. Mississippi State, improving to 9-2-6 overall and 3-1-6 in conference play, defended the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Following the break, the Crimson Tide out-shot the hosts 8-2 in the second half and registered a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal. Despite generating several promising scoring opportunities, the visiting side could not break through. The result closed out a conference stretch that included seven SEC victories—the program’s highest conference win total since posting a 10-0 record during the 2022 campaign.
We finished tied for second in the SEC after being picked ninth in the preseason poll. Credit to Mississippi State. They played hard today. They got the early goal on us and then sat back and defended. We had a couple great looks, but we just weren't good enough to convert them today.
