COLUMBIA, Mo. Cody Schrader ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns and the defense held the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-5, 1-3) to four field goals as the No. 20 Missouri Tigers (7-1, 3-1) won their seventh straight Homecoming game before a sellout crowd, 34-12.

Mizzou retained the Mayor’s Cup with its fifth straight win over South Carolina and improved its all-time Homecoming record to 67-40-5. It was also the 700th victory in Missouri history, making MU the 33rd school to reach the 700 milestone.

The Missouri defense harassed USC quarterback Spencer Rattler all day, sacking him six times for 48 yards in losses. Four of those sacks came on third down. South Carolina converted only three of 13 third downs. Rattler completed 23-of-40 passes for 217 yards and was intercepted late in the game by Jaylon Carlies on a deep pass intended for O’Mega Blake at the Missouri 33-yard line.

That was the cue for Schrader to put a bow on the victory. On a 67-yard drive, he carried six times for 35 yards including an 11-yard touchdown run up the middle for Missouri’s final score. Early in the drive, Luther Burden III caught a 30-yard touch pass from quarterback Brady Cook down the left sideline.

Burden, who caught four passes for 90 yards and ran three times for 10 yards, put the Tigers on the board in the first quarter with a 42-yard touchdown reception on which he wrestled the ball away from two defenders.

The Tigers forced the Gamecocks three-and-out, including a seven-yard sack by Triston Newson then marched to another touchdown. On the 59-yard drive, Theo Wease Jr. made an over-the-shoulder, spinning catch down to the USC 10 and Schrader rushed 10 yards for the score on the next play to give MU a 14-0 lead.

Mizzou forced another punt and put together a 10-play, 87-yard touchdown drive, with Cook running 17 yards on a QB draw for a score to up the lead to 21-0. After another USC three-and-out, MU drove 82 yards to a 21-yard FG by Harrison Mevis to make it 24-0.

South Carolina’s Mitch Jeter kicked a 51-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the half and a 41-yarder on its first possession of the third quarter to close within 24-6.

On MU’s first third-quarter possession, punter Luke Bauer dropped the snap and fell on it for a loss of 11 yards. South Carolina took over at the MU 33, but a sack of Rattler by Chuck Hicks and Johnny Walker, Jr. forced the Gamecocks to settle for another Jeter FG, this one good from 38 yards and left the score at 24-9.

The Tigers forced another three-and-out, getting a third-down sack by Darius Robinsonthen put together a short drive that led to a 53-yard field goal by Mevis.

Jeter kicked his fourth field goal, from 21 yards, with 10:31 left in the game to cut the MU lead to 27-12 after a 72-yard drive. The Gamecocks had a first-and-goal at the five-yard line but were unable to score. On third down Carlieswho along with Daylan Carnell had a team-high seven tackles, broke up a pass at the goal line.

Missouri outgained South Carolina 418 to 286. Cook was 14-of-24 for 198 yards and ran nine times for 64 yards.
