And of course, this year our presence in the diaspora has a special value, because for the first time we are realizing the decades-old vision of Greek diasporas being able to vote by mail from their permanent place of residence.

So again a big “thank you” to the Canadian Prime Minister, a big “thank you” to those who organized this truly amazing parade, which proves that Hellenism here in Canada is strong and alive,” he said.

At the event of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal that followed, the Greek Prime Minister was named Honorary President of the Community, in recognition of his work.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis even reserved a… surprise for Justin Trudeau, a photo of him from his visit to the Acropolis when he was a child, which he gave to him.

Addressing the Greek expatriates, the Prime Minister praised the vigor and dynamism of the Greek-Canadian community, which is estimated at 350,000 people, while inviting them to register on the electronic platform to vote for the first time through the postal vote in the June 9 European elections.

“We have decided, for the first time in our history, to give you the possibility to vote in the Greek elections through postal voting, without having to go to the Embassy or return to Greece.

We have an online platform that is open. You can register until the end of April. I would encourage you to do so, because Justin said something very important: “democracy is never easy. But at the end of the day, the strength of our democracies depends very much on the democratic participation of all citizens.”

Greece is growing at a rate much faster than that of the Eurozone. It attracts significant foreign investment. Greece is no longer the “black sheep” of the European family. It is a self-confident country,” he emphasized, among other things.

The two leaders had the opportunity to talk with representatives of the Greek community. They visited shops and talked to owners and patrons.
