Mixed fortunes for Geneva clubs in the Cup

CS Chênois had the honor of receiving FC Sion, thirteen times winner of the event, on Saturday at Trois Chênes. The first half was rather balanced between the two formations but it was the Valaisans who returned to the locker room with a one-goal advantage.

In the 68th minute of play, Chênois equalized from a corner. The stadium capsizes and the locals begin to consider the feat.

Chênois ends up cracking

Nothing will be scored in regulation time, so both teams go into extra time. Captain Betim Bilalli tried, in vain, to motivate his teammates.

Despite the tension displayed by Christian Constantin, Chênois could not do anything in this extension with one less man on the lawn. The residents of the 1st League lost 3-1. The disappointment is inevitably palpable when analyzing the match.

Current affairs will resume next week for Chênois with a trip to Portalban. A meeting that should generate less excitement.

Etoile Carouge without shaking

The next day, the Alfred-Comoli stadium hosted the Geneva derby of this first round of the Cup. FC Compesières, qualified thanks to its victory in the Geneva Cup and resident of the 3rd League, faced Etoile Carouge, quarter-finalist of the last edition.

Despite the four divisions gap that separates the two teams, little Tom Compesières resists Carouge’s offensives during the 1st half, being led by only one goal at tea time. But the second success of the visitors at the start of the second period sounded the death knell for the hopes of FC Compesières.

Final score: 5 to 0 for Etoile Carouge who had a string of successes in the second period. Despite the logical gap on the scoreboard, the locals retain the positive.

Qualified for the round of 16, Etoile Carouge will tackle a completely different caliber in the next round. The Stelliens will host FC Saint-Gall, finalist in the event last season, at La Fontenette.
