MLS: Taxiarchis Fountas tortures Orlando in an offensive festival

Monday, Jul 4, 2022. 8:57 PM

Taxiarchis Fountas was merciless for Orlando City with a three-goal performance and DC United capitalized on it to seal a 5-3 victory in an attacking festival.

DC wasted no time showing its colors. From the 5th minute of play, Fountas was forgotten in the middle of the area and he let go a good shot to open the scoring.

Obviously in great shape, Fountas resumed his demolition work three minutes later. He accepted a pass from Michael Estrada and pushed the ball into the back of the net to give DC a two-goal lead after just eight minutes.

Back on the field for the second half, the story remained the same. In the 51st minute, Fountas took advantage of a free kick to go there with a strike that escaped goalkeeper Pedro Gallese and completed his hat trick.

Orlando, however, rolled up their sleeves to get back into the game. Facundo Torres put the team on point in the 57th minute, then Ercan Kara reduced the deficit to just one goal a few minutes later.

In the 74th minute, DC regained their two-goal lead thanks to a net from Kimarni Smith.

Alexandre Pato made it 4-3 with an 80th-minute penalty, but Orlando was unable to use the momentum to tie the game.

Nigel Robertha (90’+6) completed the scoring in stoppage time.

DC United is therefore back on the path to victory, after losing its last two games.
