Muscat: A huge increase in the number of mobile users in Oman. According to data from the National Center for Statistics and Information, the number of mobile phone users has increased by 12.4 percent till June this year.
The total number of mobile users in Oman is currently 70.2 million. Most of these are pre-paid subscriptions. A 10 percent increase was recorded in prepaid connections during this period.
Apart from mobile phone subscriptions, growth has also been recorded in the number of active mobile broadband internet subscriptions in the country. The total number of internet connections is 59.3 lakh. This illustrates the ever-growing trend of mobile technology usage in Oman.
The growth rate of mobile broadband internet subscriptions was 7.4 percent. The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority had earlier decided to phase out 3G mobile services in Oman.
