The opportunity for us to share a private cocktail following the play with Kad Merad, his wife Julia Vignali and his faithful friends Florent Pagny and Azucena. But not only that… And for you to discover a little more about this modern and surprising version of Victor Hugo’s classic and behind the scenes of this private evening.
First of all, let’s go back in time to the 17th century, and enter the greatest intimacy of the Spanish court. This is where Ruy Blas is located, name of the lackey of the famous Marquis Don Salluste, played by the great Jacques Weber. It is he who opens the ball, barely with the curtains raised, explaining how much he is angry with the queen for having disgraced him. He will then need the help of his cousin, Count Don César, and that is where Kad Merad comes into play. While it may be surprising and disconcerting to see the actor in such a classic work, he fits in perfectly with the setting and the rest of the cast. Very funny in this character of Don Caesar who refuses to live according to the laws that the nobility imposes on him and prefers to disguise himself as a rebel, stealing everything he can from the richest. Barely entering the stage, the actor brings an unexpected but very pleasant rhythm.
Don Caesar will nevertheless refuse to help his Machiavellian cousin. Don Sallust will then fall back on his lackey Ruy Blas, a young rebel from the people, who will therefore usurp the identity of Don Caesar and have to seduce the queen. A queen who is far from leaving this romantic Ruy Blas indifferent, brilliantly played by the young Basile Larie, who captures the stage with his energy and accuracy throughout the play. Charming, he will then make the queen, played by Stéphane Caillard, succumb to the point of becoming her Prime Minister. Ruy Blas will then find himself in the middle of a formidable intrigue mixing power, love, machination and perversion. This timeless masterpiece is served by an exceptional cast, but also a modern staging, combining sumptuous costumes, captivating music and contemporary choreography. In short, a Ruy Blas, certainly still classic and written in Alexandrines, but like you’ve never seen it before.
Kad Merad and Julia Vignali, a complicity that is obvious
After discovering this show in the sumptuous Marigny theater, in the heart of the Parisian golden triangle, Purepeople.com was able to discuss the play with the cast, as well as everyone who was able to work on it. And for this premiere, Kad Merad was naturally able to count on the front-row support of his wife Julia Vignali. The talented and lovely host looked very beautiful and could not hide her complicity with her husband, who was very coveted during this private cocktail. Sunglasses on his nose, the Pamela Rose actor wandered through the evening, responding to all requests and happily finding the presence of his wife whenever he could.
Florent Pagny in form, Azucena eternal support
But not only that, since Kad Merad also received a precious visit from his best friend Florent Pagny, who came with his wife Azucena to attend the premiere of Ruy Blas. Affected by lung cancer since 2021, the coach of The Voice has been fighting since the illness, notably following a chemotherapy protocol. A true warrior, he appeared that evening very fit, smiling and not lacking in energy. His hair grew back and the one who had chosen Kad Merad as his best man at his wedding could not miss such an event. So in good shape that the artist did not refuse to grab a whole tray of petits fours to share with his friends. Always at his side, his most faithful ally Azucena was as always very elegant.
Between two glasses of champagne and two petit fours, we were also able to meet Olivier Baroux. Kad Merad’s ex-acolyte came in the company of his two children Enya and Boris Baroux, who look just like him. Also present during this evening organized by Fimalac, producer Richard Caillat, who once shared the life of Sophie Marceau. The latter, who is behind the return of the actress to the theater, in the excellent play Notewas able to chat with a few close friends, notably the former coach of Paris-Saint-Germain, Christophe Galtier, who was also present at this very beautiful evening.
