It looks like Infinity Ward is ramping up marketing for Call of Duty 2022, which is expected to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The developer relaunched the Modern Warfare series in 2019 to huge commercial success and rave reviews after a period of games set in in the far future and which featured space combat and advanced locomotion. Player reactions to these games have been mixed, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare felt like a return to form and reminded players of the series’ golden age while continuing to iterate on what the franchise had done up to that point. Now, it looks like Infinity Ward is getting ready to unveil the long-awaited sequel.

After confirming that a sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is coming this year, Infinity Ward has kept quiet about the new game. Now the company has taken it one step further by deleting all of its posts on one of the social networks and turning the Twitter profile photo into a black circle and the banner image into an extremely dark image. Twitter user MrDalekJD brightened up the image of the banner, and while it appears mostly blank, it does feature Simon “Ghost” Riley, one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. Ghost debuted in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2009 before returning to post-launch content for Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone. He is expected to play a major role in the campaign of the new game, which is rumored to be centered around the Colombian drug cartel.

Earlier this month, insider RalphsValves suggested that something related to Call of Duty will appear at the end of April. They also mentioned that the announcement is scheduled for May, but maybe a teaser that will tell fans when to tune in to the right announcement will come out by the end of this month. Details on the project are scarce yet, but rumor has it that it will be one of the most ambitious Call of Duty games to date, featuring a brand new sandbox mode.
