Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has claimed that England all-rounder Moeen Ali did not know that it was against the law to use the spray on an injured finger during the ongoing first Ashes 2023 Test at Edgbaston. On the third day of the England-Australia first test, the all-rounder was injured and had to leave the field.
Ali injured his index finger and was seen using an anti-perspirant spray as a remedy. The all-rounder was fined 25 percent of his match fee as he was found guilty of a Level 1 offense under the ICC Code of Conduct.
Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket after the third day’s play, Ricky Ponting had this to say about Moeen Ali’s fine: “He didn’t know the rule. That’s why it was wrong. Sometimes we have seen batsmen use this kind of spry,” Ponting said.
England pacer Ollie Robinson has said that the hosts can still be in a strong position if they bat on Day 4 of the first Ashes 2023 Test at Edgbaston on Monday. England had a slim seven-run lead at the end of Australia’s first innings, and at stumps on Day 3 due to rain, England were 28/2 against Takaraha with a 35-run lead. It was clear that the rain had helped Australia. So, every run England scores on Day 4 will worry Australia.
