In the event of the detection of monkey pox in Mauritius, a protocol has been established by the Ministry of Health. This is a device that has been set up at the airport and at the port. It is the team of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) which will have the task of taking charge of suspected cases in hotels.
According to established protocol, if a hotel physician suspects a passenger of having the monkeypox virus, the hotel should immediately alert the regional public health team. A team from the RRT will then be dispatched to take charge of the suspected case. The RRT will then decide whether the passenger will need to take a PCR test. And if he has no symptoms, he will have to isolate himself in his hotel room while waiting for the results of the PCR. However, if the test is negative, the person will be able to enjoy their stay. Otherwise, the person will have to isolate themselves for 21 days in their hotel room. And if his health deteriorates, the person will have to go to the ENT hospital in Vacoas.
As a reminder, the isolation conditions are the same as for Covid-19. If the patient cannot afford his hotel, he can go to a less expensive establishment or to the ENT hospital in Vacoas. If it is a foreigner, the hospitalization costs will be borne by him. In the event of a positive test for the monkeypox virus, the health team will carry out a ‘contact tracing’.
