(Belga) Morocco has discovered three suspected cases of monkeypox, for the first time in the kingdom, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday evening.
“We have detected three suspected cases of monkeypox who are in good health and under medical supervision,” said Dr. Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations. In a statement, Mr. Mrabet stressed that the medical analyzes were in progress and that the results would be known “soon”. He did not indicate the places of detection of the suspected cases, nor the identity of the three people. The Ministry of Health has just published a “surveillance and response plan” for the detection and treatment of cases of monkey pox and for health protection. Monkey pox, a less dangerous cousin of smallpox eradicated for about 40 years, has made its sudden appearance in recent weeks in countries where it is normally only very rare: Europe and North America. As cases continue to increase outside endemic areas of Africa, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on Monday an “atypical” situation, but it deemed it possible to “stop” this transmission of the disease between humans.
