Mons Unemployment Crisis: A Story of Job Seekers Facing Transport Challenges

2023-09-10 14:16:07

During the program “It’s not every day Sunday”, a long-term unemployed person from Mons came to explain his situation. He explains that he is 56 years old and unemployed since 2009, or 14 years. He worked in accounting and earns between 1,300 and 1,400 euros per month?

“I’ve had a telephone interview for five jobs and each time, it’s the same thing: when I said that I depended on public transport, they cut it short and said that it’s not okay. We are criticized for not looking for work and when we want to work, it is the employer who refuses because we depend on public transport. You have to be credible…” declares the man on condition of anonymity.

Georges-Louis Bouchez, present on the set, responded unexpectedly: “I have a proposition to make to him: I am looking for an administrative assistant at Francs Borains. I really invite him to come for the job interview. We have a bus stop right in front of the stadium and I accept that we arrive at 9am, so there is no problem. Really give him my contact details, I’m not kidding,” said the president of the MR.
