The Montreal Alouettes announced Tuesday the signing of three national players, linebackers Frédéric Chagnon and Tyrell Richards as well as fullback Alexandre Gagné.
Frédéric Chagnon played every game for the Sparrows last season, in addition to starting six times. The 31-year-old linebacker amassed 26 defensive tackles and eight on special teams in addition to having two pass breakups and a quarterback sack. Chagnon also participated in the team’s three playoff games, in addition to lifting the Gray Cup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Quebecer even helped the Carabins win the Vanier Cup in 2014 at Percival-Molson Stadium, when Danny Maciocia was the team’s coach.
Alexandre Gagné also played in all of the Alouettes’ games this year, including those in the playoffs. Gagné, like Chagnon, lifted the precious trophy at arm’s length. The former Vert et Or of the University of Sherbrooke recorded one defensive tackle and 16 on special teams, which ranks him 12th on the circuit in this regard. He made five in the playoffs.
For his part, Tyrell Richards accumulated 10 defensive tackles, and 11 on special teams and 11 games during the season. Richards also had a 40-yard interception that he returned to the end zone for a touchdown. He also forced a fumble and more than recovered one. The linebacker played in two of the three playoff games in addition to winning the Gray Cup.
