BROSSARD, Qc – The Montreal Canadiens have issued invitations to 27 players in anticipation of their rookie camp which will be held in two stages from September 13 to 19, and which includes three matches as part of a tournament which will take place in Buffalo.
The roster includes 15 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalkeepers. Seven of the 27 invited players are from Quebec, including forward Joshua Roy, a player sought in 2021 who amassed 99 points, including 46 goals, in 55 games with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the QMJHL last year.
The other Quebecers are forwards Isaac Dufort and Xavier Simoneau, defenders Christopher Ortiz, Miguël Tourigny and William Trudeau and goalie Quentin Miller.
The list also includes defender David Reinbacher, fifth player selected in the first round of the June 2023 draft. Two other players selected during this auction will also take part in this rookie camp, namely Miller and forward Florian Xhekaj, the brother of ‘Arber.
Rookie camp will begin on Wednesday, September 13 at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard with medical and physical tests. On-ice training will take place the next morning in Brossard, before the group leaves for Buffalo.
After a morning practice, on Friday, September 15, the Canadiens’ rookie squad, which will be led by Jean-François Houle, head coach of the Laval Rocket, will play its first game, against the Buffalo Sabres, in the evening.
The next afternoon, the Habs players will battle the Boston Bruins rookies before concluding their tournament on Monday, September 18, against the Ottawa Senators rookies.
