Montreal Grand Prix: Ferrari Thrives with Fourth and Fifth Place Finish – Read Charles Leclerc’s Post-Race Insights

In Montreal, the Ferrari drivers did not claim the podium, but the red cars crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth, although they started from 10th and 11th positions.

“Fourth place in the race says that we are moving in the right direction, and I have a feeling that our car has improved. Next stop is Austria!” Charles Leclerc shared with fans on social networks.

However, to make progress in the course of the Grand Prix, first of all, the decision to stay on the track helped, when after the accident of George Russell on the 11th lap the safety car left, and most of the racers went to the pits for fresh tires.

“Of course, in situations like this there is always something to worry about, but both riders said that when traffic does not interfere with them, the cars allow you to go fast enough,” commented Frederic Vasseur, head of the Scuderia, after the race. “Although, of course, it was a risky decision, because the situation could become more complicated if the safety car left after 15 laps.”

Of course, Vasseur was asked about team tactics, because during the Grand Prix, Leclerc’s engineer assured him several times that Carlos Sainz, who was following in 5th position, would not attack.

The head of the Italian team is sure that it was the right decision: “We did not intend to protect any of our riders, rather it was about not wasting time dueling between them, as we wanted to increase the lead over Esteban Ocon and Lando Norris.

It would be foolish to waste time on this kind of rivalry, although, as a rule, Charles and Carlos are given the right to fight each other. But in that situation, it would put both at a disadvantage.”
