The Quebec Municipal Commission will open an investigation into the City of Montreal after learning of the well-watered dinner of the mayor and members of her cabinet in Vienna last April, according to what TVA Nouvelles has learned.

A delegation of around ten people from the Plante administration who was traveling in Austria used public funds to pay for eight bottles of wine.
Taxpayer money was used to pay the nearly $2,000 bill, a third of which, or about $550, was for alcohol.
The mayor, who participated in this study mission on housing, could possibly be called upon to answer questions from Commission investigators.
The Commission explains, however, that its investigations are carried out confidentially.
Reaction from the mayor
Valérie Plante admitted this Tuesday to the Quebecor investigation office that it was a mistake to charge taxpayers for this alcohol purchase.
She subsequently declared that she would reimburse this amount which was taken from taxpayers’ pockets to pay for the eight bottles of wine.
The investigation could also extend to the Public Consultation Office which has been in the spotlight for more than 10 days.
TVA Nouvelles has also learned that Dominique Ollivier, the former president of the executive council of the City of Montreal, is now also the subject of a complaint before the Quebec Municipal Commission.
