Dancing and celebrating until dawn: this is what you can do the night of October 7 to 8 during an event marking the end of the 17th pedestrianization of Sainte-Catherine Street East.
Thus, Montrealers will be able to enjoy until 6 a.m. the activities offered by the 20 participating establishments. DJ, karaoke, dance and Drag show will be on the program.
This initiative was taken “as part of an ongoing pilot project aimed at evaluating prolonged nightlife in the city,” said the Village Commercial Development Company (SDC) in a press release.
In addition to being able to enjoy the bars until sunrise, it will also be possible to eat in participating restaurants.
“The Village has always played a leading role in Montreal’s nighttime economy. […] Obviously, the event has something to delight the night owls and entrepreneurs of the neighborhood, but could also benefit the neighborhood,” explained the general director of the SDC du Village, Gabrielle Rondy.
The latter also estimates that by allowing certain businesses to stay open longer, excessive crowds leaving bars (at 3 a.m.) will be less significant. “This experience will allow us to assess the impact on safety, civility and complaints related to noise at night,” she added.
