“This increase shows that, despite all the challenges we face, the Austrian business location is on a very robust foundation and, fortunately, many are taking the first step into self-employment by registering a business,” said Economics Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) in a broadcast on Saturday.
New registrations have been between 85,000 and 90,000 annually since 2018, and the increase in 2023 represents an increase of almost eight percent compared to the previous year. In a comparison of federal states, the most business registrations were in Vienna. 20,003 businesses were founded here last year, followed by Lower Austria (17,700), Styria (13,752) and Upper Austria (13,539). More than 87 percent of business registrations (81,565) were completed online using the Austrian Business Information System (GISA) service.
